Fitter and Turner work involves:

  • Reviewing drawings and requirements to determine the appropriate materials, procedures, and setting.
  • Utilize specialized tools and equipment for cutting, grinding and forming metal and other materials.
  • Making metal components manufactured by the manufacturer into finished products and connecting metal parts and subassemblies to create equipment and machinery.
  • With precise measurement tools examine the fit, accuracy, precision, and clearance of the pieces of metal that you have assembled and manufactured.
  • Finding and fixing problems with tools and equipment and performing regular maintenance.

What skills and knowledge do I need?

This position requires the MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering—Mechanical Trade qualification. To receive this certification, you must prove your abilities in the following competency units. Each competency unit defines a subset of the knowledge and skills needed in Australian businesses
