Validity: 24 months (shortest amongst all major authorities)

Key Note: If the degree is not directly related to your nominated ICT role, Key Note may discount your years of work experience. Make plans for this early on.

2026 Update: per the Migration Legislation Amendment Instrument 2026 (LIN 26/027), the Assessment of Skills and Qualifications (ACS) system (previously VETASSESS) must now assess applicants for occupations across the ANZSCO 224999 category of Data Scientists.

Engineers Australia (EA)

Occupations: Professional Category, Technologist, Associate

Assessment Type:Competency Demonstration Report (CDR); This is a self-assessment document in a structured portfolio of engineering projects.

Processing Time: 8-12 weeks standard

Validity: 3 years

Key Note: The quality writing meeting Competency Standard requirement, EA format, genuine project. Plagiarism will lead to rejection and a ban.

VETASSESS

Occupations: 360+ professional, technical, and general occupations (teachers in some cases, surveyors, marketing professionals)

Fee (2025 Updated):

  • Standard (offshore): AUD $1,096
  • Standard (onshore, incl. GST): AUD $1,205.60
  • Priority processing (on-shore): AUD $1,951

         Processing Time: 8-12 weeks for the standard order

2026 Update: for applications from on/after 8 October 2025, surveyors previously assessed by GCA (now in liquidation) will be required to apply through ISNSW (Institution of Surveyors NSW).

Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC)

Occupations: Registered nurses, enrolled nurses, midwives, nurse practitioners

Processing Time: 4–6 weeks for modified pathway (streamlined countries). Full assessment: 8–12 weeks

Streamlined Countries: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, USA, Ireland, Singapore, Spain, Hong Kong

Key Note: It is important that you are registered with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) prior to applying to ANMAC.

Occupations: Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, chefs, mechanics, other tradespeople.

Occupations: Primary, secondary, and special education teachers

Fee:Assessment only (GST not applicable as it is a unique exception)

Processing Time: 8–12 weeks. Access to no fast-track.

CPA Australia / Chartered Accountants ANZ (CAANZ) / IPA

Occupations: Accountants & auditors, financial workers

Fee: Updated May 2025 with location-based Pricing

Key Note: CPA Australia has ended the service “Skills Assessment Update and Skilled Employment Assessment”. Combined qualification + employment assessment is the only qualification assessment available.

GSM Skills Assessment

There is a mandatory successful general migration skills assessment in a bid to apply for the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program, comprising visas of Subclasses 189, 190, and 491.Only assessments issued by the relevant Australian assessing authority are accepted by the Department of Home Affairs. Follow this roadmap as your action plan:

Step 1 — Confirm Your ANZSCO Occupation Code

Visit the Department of Home Affairs’ occupation list tool. Find the exact definition of your occupation in the ANZSCO code — this is what you will use to determine your assessing authority and point-scoring potential.

Step 2 — Verify Your Occupation Is on the Skilled Occupation List

Your occupation must be on the MLTSSL (Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List), STSOL (Short-term Skilled Occupation List) or ROL (Regional Occupation List). Lists are different for each visa subclass.

Step 3 — Identify the Correct Assessing Authority

Use the Department of Home Affairs’ assessing authority finder. Please always check in 2026 (authority changes for surveyors and data scientists have recently been made — see “authority changes” above).

Step 4 — Gather Your Documents

Across most authorities, the following sorts of documents are required as standard:

  • Passport Copy (identity verification)
  • Official academic transcripts and degree certificates (Official copies)
  • Employment Reference Letters – detailed, on company letterhead, dated, signed and stating duties, hours of work.
  • Registration certificates (where relevant)
  • Test scores of the English language (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, OET)
  • Curriculum Vitae / Resume
  • Payslip or tax records (Some authorities)

Step 5 — Submit Your Application and Pay Fees

Online submission is available for most authorities. The fee will be paid on enrollment. Estimate expenditure of AUD $500 to AUD 2000+ according to authority and speed of processing.

Step 6 — Respond to Requests for Additional Information (RFI)

You’ll be notified if your application is considered “incomplete” by receiving an RFI. Be quick and thorough; delays add up to the entire processing time.

Step 7 — Receive Your Outcome

Positive evaluation: Move forward with your EOI to SkillSelect.

Negative assessment: Appeal rights may apply (depends on the authority) and/or review other ANZSCO pathways with a registered migration agent.

Step 8 — Lodge Your EOI on SkillSelect

Once the assessment is successful, please submit an Expression of Interest. All EOIs are ranked in order of points score, and then a selection is made through an invitation round periodically by the Department of Home Affairs. Common Mistakes That Lead to Rejection

  • Wrong Assessing Authority: The assessment by the wrong body is not enough, no matter how recent, as long as it is not the one required by the legislation. This is particularly important after the changes in authority in 2026.
  • Occupation mismatch: Your employment reference letter should definitely contain the same duties as outlined under your ANZSCO code, and not just your job title.
  • Plagiarised CDR (Engineers): Plagiarism is detected by Engineers Australia. Any content that is copied will be rejected and may not be reapplied.
  • Expired assessment: ACS assessments are valid for 24 months. If your visa is still pending before the expiration date, you need to reapply for it.
  • Lack of adequate experience: The minimum years of experience needed for most authorities relevant to the job (full-time) is typically 3+ years.
  • Unverifiable reference letters: Letters that are not on official letterhead, don’t contain contact information for the manager, or are sent from companies now defunct are often disregarded.
