A fitter, sometimes called a general fitter, is a skilled craftsman who assembles, installs, fixes and maintains structures, machines, and other items. In this position, you will interpret technical drawings and blueprints, measure and label materials, and use various tools and equipment to cut, shape, and fit pieces according to exact specifications. Fitters maintain and repair mechanical plants and equipment to operational standards using tools, machinery, equipment, and engineering processes.

As a fitter, your role is crucial in maintaining mechanical plants and equipment to operational standards. You will be employing tools, machinery, equipment, and engineering techniques to ensure the smooth functioning of our operations.
Their job involves:
- Recognizing deteriorated or broken mechanical parts and apparatus.
- Restoring machinery and worn-out mechanical parts.
- Replacement equipment and mechanical parts that are damaged or worn out.
- Carrying out adjustments.
Fitters may also:
- Carry out machining tasks.
- Upkeep of pneumatic and hydraulic systems and their parts.
- Carry out welding tasks.

Stage 1

What skills and knowledge do I need?
This position requires the MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade qualification. You must prove proficient in the following competency units to receive this certification. Each competency unit defines a subset of the knowledge and abilities required in Australian businesses.
