A business or person who exports goods or services from one nation to another is called an exporter. Someone or a business who buys items from a different country and then transports them back to their country is referred to as an importer. While imports can provide goods that the country that imports them is unable to produce or has a disadvantage exporting can help improve economic growth and bring benefits to the country that exports. The process of planning or organizing, controlling, managing, and coordinating an establishment that is either exporting or importing operations is the responsibility of an exporter or importer.
Occupation Description
The operations of an importer or exporting business are planned, organized, controlled by, monitored, and coordinated by the importer or exporter.
Workplaces that are deemed acceptable according to the ANZSCO code:
- Import/Export Business Owner
Not considered to be suitable for the ANZSCO code:
- Wholesaler
- Procurement, Supply and Distribution Managers
- Logistics Manager
- Marketing and Sales Manager
These occupations are not classified in ANZSCO or aren’t at the required level of competence.
Group Allocation
VETASSESS Group B occupation: Importer or Exporter
A bachelor’s or equivalent degree which is considered comparable to the educational levels in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) or experience in a similar area is essential for this profession.
Candidates must meet at minimum any of four requirements in the table below (1-4):
Extra credentials for a topic that is highly relevant to study are at these levels of competence:
- AQF Diploma
- AQF Advanced Diploma
- Associate Degree from AQF or
- AQF Graduate Diploma
The Bachelor’s or higher degree includes:
- Master’s Degree in AQF from the AQF Foundation or
- Doctoral Degree from AQF
Highly relevant, paid, employment duration (20 to more than 20 hours per week)
- An average of three years’ relevant work experience with a suitable qualification level in the profession was obtained 5 years prior to the date to take a skills test.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience is required. This consists in five consecutive years of work that is relevant (which may not have yet to be completed within the past 5 year) and at minimum one year of work with a high degree of relevance that was completed in the last five years preceding the date of submission.
If employment is to be made prior to the attainment of the required level of certification. If this is the case, the applicant must have completed one year’s worth of relevant work and have sufficient knowledge over the last five years. The pre-qualification period of the last five years could have taken place over the previous 10 years.
