Web Designer is a VETASSESS Group B occupation

Group B

This job requires a qualification equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Applicants can meet the assessment criteria for this job in four ways.

If an applicant started working before finishing the required qualification, they must have at least one year of relevant work experience at the right skill level within the last five years. The remaining five years of pre-qualification work experience can be from the last ten years.

A positive assessment of both the qualification level and the duration of employment is needed for a successful Skills Assessment outcome.

Group B

Additional qualifications in a highly relevant field of study include those comparable to the following levels:

  • AQF Diploma
  • AQF Advanced Diploma
  • AQF Associate Degree or
  • AQF Graduate Diploma

Bachelor degree or higher degree includes:

  • AQF Master Degree or
  • AQF Doctoral Degree

Highly relevant paid employment duration (20 hours or more per week):

1–3 years:

Minimum of 1–3 years of employment highly relevant to the nominated occupation, completed at an appropriate skill level within the five years before applying for a Skills Assessment.

4 years:

Minimum of 6 years of relevant employment required. This includes five years of relevant employment (which can be outside the last five-year period) plus at least one year of highly relevant employment within the last five years before applying.

AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree

Highly relevant major fields of study include:

  • Digital Design/Media
  • Media Studies
  • Interactive and Mobile Media

This includes qualifications assessed at the AQF Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels.

Web design studies involve learning how to create content presentations delivered to users via the web using browsers or other web-enabled software like internet TV clients, micro-blogging clients, and RSS readers. Relevant studies focus on the user experience aspects of website design, rather than software development.

A qualification majoring in IT (e.g., Computer Systems and Networks, Software Design, Database, and Information Systems) without core design subjects will not be considered highly relevant.
