Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages

To qualify for a positive Skills Assessment outcome as a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), applicants must hold a qualification equivalent to an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher. This degree should be in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation. Additionally, applicants must have at least one year of highly relevant, post-qualification employment at an appropriate skill level completed within the last five years.

In cases where the degree is not in a highly relevant field, applicants may still be eligible if they hold an additional qualification at least at AQF Certificate IV level (or CELTA) in a highly relevant field. However, this must be accompanied by three years of employment at an appropriate skill level within the last five years in the nominated occupation.

A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is necessary for a favorable Skills Assessment outcome.

Group A TESOL

Highly relevant paid employment duration  (20 hours or more per week):

To meet the employment requirements for a Skills Assessment as a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

1. One year of post-qualification paid employment: Applicants must have at least one year of paid employment, with a minimum of 20 hours per week, highly relevant to the nominated occupation. This employment should be at an appropriate skill level and completed within the last five years before the date of application for the Skills Assessment.
2. Minimum years of employment: Additionally, there is a requirement for a minimum number of years of employment highly relevant to the nominated occupation, completed at an appropriate skill level within the five years preceding the date of application for the Skills Assessment. The specific duration required may vary depending on the assessing authority and the immigration regulations in place at the time of application.
