Group D

To work in this occupation, you need a qualification equivalent to an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate IV or higher.

You can meet the assessment criteria in one of four ways:

If you worked in this field before completing the required qualification, you must have at least one year of relevant work experience at the proper skill level within the last five years. The other three years of experience can be from the last ten years.

Both your qualification level and work experience duration must be positively assessed to achieve a positive Skills Assessment Outcome.

Group D

Additional qualifications in a highly relevant field of study include those comparable to the following levels: 

  • AQF Diploma 
  • AQF Advanced Diploma
  • AQF Associate Degree or AQF Graduate Diploma

Highly relevant paid employment duration (20 hours or more per week) 

To qualify for a Skills Assessment, you must have a minimum amount of employment that is highly relevant to the nominated occupation and completed at the appropriate skill level within the five years prior to the date of application. Specifically, you need at least one year of highly relevant employment within this five-year period. This ensures that your experience is recent and relevant to the occupation for which you are being assessed. 

To qualify for a Skills Assessment, you need a minimum of four years of relevant employment. This includes:

  • At least one year of highly relevant employment completed at the appropriate skill level within the last five years before the date of application.
  • An additional three years of relevant employment, which can be from any time, even outside the last five-year period.

This combination ensures that you have both recent and cumulative relevant work experience.

  • Referring prescriptions to Pharmacists and assisting in preparing medications.
  • Filling and labeling patients’ prescriptions under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
  • Recording details of medications and medical supplies, placing orders, taking stock, storing them, and delivering them to patients.

  • Compounding products under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
  • Managing stock levels and inventory in pharmacies or on wards.

  • Assisting with medication audits, reports, and reviews.
  • Supporting clinical Pharmacists in their routine work, such as screening patients or gathering information for Pharmacist review.

In Australia, there are currently no legal requirements for licensing or registration to work as a Pharmacy Technician.

    Employment as a Pharmacist doesn’t qualify for a positive assessment as a Pharmacy Technician due to differing skill sets. Also, Pharmacy Technicians should not be confused with Pharmacy Sales Assistants who sell non-prescription goods in retail pharmacies.
