Community Arts Worker

Community arts projects are specific artistic endeavors that have a goal set by the community. These initiatives often aim to raise public awareness about a community problem or issue while giving disadvantaged individuals access to artistic opportunities. A community artist might work on a project in collaboration with members of the community, such as those who have mental health concerns or disabilities, or local residents. A community arts worker consults the community in order to identify problems, concerns and goals. Then they design and implement strategies to encourage and support community arts initiatives and events, and to raise public awareness about the importance of cultural development.
Occupation Description
A community arts worker will consult with the local community to determine what issues are important and urgent. Then, they plan and implement strategies that will enable and encourage arts and cultural projects in the community and promote their importance.

Group Allocation
VETASSESS Group A occupation: Community Arts Workers
This career requires a bachelor’s or higher degree that is considered equivalent to the Australian Qualifications Framework.
The candidate must meet at least one of these four requirements (1-4).
The following levels correspond to extra credentials in a topic of study that is highly applicable:
- AQF Diploma
- Advanced Diploma AQF
- Associate Degree in AQF
- Graduate Diploma AQF
The following are included in a Bachelor’s or higher degree:
- The AQF Master’s Degree is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree.
- Doctoral Degree AQF
High-paying employment for a period of 20 hours or more per wk
- Five years prior to the date of application for a skill assessment, a minimum of 1-3 relevant years of work experience in the occupation at a suitable level of skills was acquired.
- The minimum requirement for a job application is 6 years relevant experience, which includes 5 years relevant work (which can include work that has not yet been completed within the last five years), and 1 year of highly relevant employment.
Assume employment occurs before the required certification. The candidate must, in this case, have performed at least one year of work that is highly relevant and requires sufficient expertise within the last five years. The five years of pre-qualification can have been spread over the previous ten years. The Skills Assessment must be completed favorably if the employment duration and qualification level are deemed positive.

Workplace
Among the most important tasks are:
- Assessing and investigating the needs, challenges, and difficulties in a community.
- Community services and initiatives can be created, assessed, and preserved.
- Analysis of data and production of reports, including funding requests and new initiatives and activities.
- Consultation with local communities to identify local needs, concerns and ambitions.
- Coordination of cultural activities and events in the community such as meetings, hobby classes, and artistic pursuits.

- Writing grant proposals, overseeing financial planning, and performing routine administrative work.
- Promote events through social media, local radio and newspapers.
