Illustrators create and develop illustrations and designs for books, magazines, advertisements, films, and multimedia. They work on paper as well as with 2D and 3D models, using traditional drawing methods, computer techniques, or a mix of both. Illustrators need to communicate well to understand and meet their clients’ needs. Many illustrators showcase their work in a professional portfolio, which can be digital or physical, and should be able to discuss each piece when asked.
